Anne is an architect who has made affordable multi-family housing and transit-oriented urban infill the focus of her work for more than 30 years. Anne brings a deep commitment to community outreach and sustainable design to all her projects, which range in scale and program from supportive studios for formerly homeless seniors, to the transformation of isolated public housing into welcoming, resilient, mixed-use and mixed-income communities. Her affordable housing experience includes award-winning projects in San Francisco as well as San Jose, Los Angeles and Seattle. Notable examples are the AIA COTE Top Ten Award-winning Casa Adelante at 2060 Folsom, national AIA Housing Award winner 1180 Fourth Street, and Sansome and Broadway Family Housing, a CNU Charter Award honoree.
Anne serves on Mithun’s Board of Directors and leads the firm’s San Francisco office. She serves on the Board of the Bay Area Housing Action Coalition. Through her work with organizations including AIA and SPUR, Anne advocates for diversity in the profession and expanded access to affordable housing. She is a LEED accredited professional and a member of ULI’s Affordable Housing and Workforce Council. Anne received her Bachelors degree from Princeton University and studied for her Masters degree at UC Berkeley.
Can Vu Bui, AIA,
Principal, Office of Things
Can Vu Bui, AIA, Principal, Office of Things, is a registered architect in New York and co-founder of Office of Things, an award-winning multi-disciplinary design practice. The firm’s focus is on heightening the sensitivity of the human experience through design; current projects range from meditation spaces for Google in Silicon Valley, public art in San Francisco, workforce housing in central Oregon, and a handful of single-family residences in New York City and Vermont.
Prior, he worked at Johnson Chou in Toronto, Peter Eisenman in New York, and 8 years as Project Architect and Leader at Adjaye Associates, where he focused on some of the firm’s marquee projects: including the luxury condos at 130 William Street, Winter Park Library and Events Center in Orlando, and finally, San Antonio’s own, Ruby City Contemporary Arts Center.
He earned a Bachelor of Architectural Science from Ryerson University in Toronto, and his Master of Architecture from Yale University. He currently teaches at Yale University.
Dan Wheeler, FAIA
Principal, Project Architect
Dan Wheeler is a founding principal of Wheeler Kearns Architects, is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
Dan works and practices to educate his colleagues, clients, and students of what architecture can bring to elevate experience, and the responsibilities that come with this ever-optimistic endeavor.
His work spans the gamut of project type; public institutions, non-profit organizations, and private commissions. He draws to see, to test, to explain, and to build well places of authenticity.
This exclusive event recognizes Professional Achievement of chapter members, Design Excellence of projects submitted for award consideration and Community Leadership of individuals who have had a positive impact on urban, environmental or neighborhood issues in our city.
