2PLP

You are invited to apply for AIA San Antonio’s Professional Practice Leadership Program (2PLP). AIA’s award-winning Emerging Leaders Program, 2PLP, is an immersive curriculum designed to grow your leadership capacity and hone essential business skills to effectively run projects, lead a firm, and impact your community. Now in its 21^st year, 2PLP boasts more than 300 graduates.

AIA San Antonio is committed to providing the next generation of architects with the knowledge, resources, and advocacy tools needed to lead in a rapidly changing world.

2PLP is a selective program. To encourage firm collaboration and diversity we limit enrollment to a maximum of two participants per firm. Classes will feature prominent guest speakers and lecturers, including sessions led by Advising Chair, Elizabeth Hurd, AIA, Principal at RVK Architects.

Monthly all-day sessions offer a deep dive into Marketing, Contracts, Ethics, Project Management.  Top-tier guest speakers will lead important conversations about Human Resources, Leadership, Advocacy and Community Engagement. In 2026 we were excited to introduce a new session on Sustainability and Climate Action in Practice by nationally recognized expert in sustainable design, Corey Squire, AIA. In 2027, we will also expand advocacy opportunities on Capitol Hill during Architects Day in February, giving attendees more ways to engage with policymakers and advance the profession.

COMMITMENT

2PLP is a serious commitment. It is expected that those selected will attend the 2PLP Class Orientation and eight full day sessions beginning March 2027. Participants are required to be present, participate and complete assignments as instructed. No more than two absences are permitted.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for this program, an applicant must:

• be employed full-time by an architectural firm in the immediate chapter area;
• be on the path to architectural licensure or have recently become licensed;
• have at least 5 years of experience in the architecture or design fields;
• be in good standing with The American Institute of Architects and all other professional organizations;
• commit the time and effort necessary to fully participate in this program;
• fulfill program attendance requirements to graduate.

PLEASE NOTE: AIA membership is not required to participate but highly encouraged.

INSTRUCTIONS

• Application must be completed in its entirety. All information is mandatory.
• Application is due by 11:59 PM, Monday, September 14th, 2026.
• Admission to the program is competitive and based on the applicant meeting all the required criteria and the discretion of the selection committee.
• All applicants will be notified of the decision no later than Monday, October 26, 2026.
• Invoices for program fees will be sent to the firms sponsoring the candidate in January 2027.

TUITION

• $750 members/$1000 non-members (limited financial assistance available)
• Tuition fee is due no later than Monday, January 25, 2027, the date of the 2PLP Orientation.
• Tuition is non-refundable after Monday, February 1, 2027, one week after orientation.
• Employer/sponsor is responsible for paying the tuition fee on behalf of the participant.
