COTE: The Dripping Point: Evolving Codes = Changing Buildings = Increased Risk of Moisture Problems. Are you ready?
Presentation Title: The Dripping Point: Evolving Codes = Changing Buildings = Increased Risk of Moisture Problems. Are you ready?
Tightly air-sealed, well-insulated buildings combined with increased ventilation rates have become mainstream and code required, and there is no going back. The Era of Actively Controlling Moisture has begun and realizing that the traditional methods will no longer effectively meet the new moisture demands is more important than ever. We will discuss the building science perspective on the “new normal” and the challenges that architects and builders now must face in order to deal with these effectively. These include reduced cooling loads, increased part-load conditions, and ventilation impacts. The bottom line is that architects will deal with moisture issues, one way or another. The time is now to learn why and how to address indoor moisture risks (CYA) through dedicated moisture control systems in single–family homes and multifamily buildings.
